Jari Tapanainen was born in Savonlinna, Finland in 1976. As a young man
he dreamt of being a stuntman and started to train for example breaking
his falls and setting himself on fire. At the end of the 90s, however, he was
drawn to the rarer fields of performance arts. He gave his first performance
as an escape artist in 2000, when he successfully freed himself from ropes
and an air-tight sack. The following year he advanced to some fakir numbers,
hammering nails into his nasal cavity and eating light bulbs.

The choice of career was confirmed on the same year, as Jari became friends
with Timo Tuomivaara (1938-2004), a legendary escape artist. Tuomivaari
was impressed by Jari's skill and ideas and instructed him further. Jari says
now that Tuomivaara made him the great performer he is today. Furthermore,
Tuomivaara considered Jari to be his successor.

Sword swallowing was one the most impressive arts, in which Tuomivaara
instructed Jari. The feat is very dangerous, and Tuomivaara himself quit
swallowing swords after a blade injured his right lung. Since 2002 Jari has
been the only sword swallower in Finland.

Over the years, Jari's fakir performance has come to contain the most
demanding and nowadays also the rarest traditional numbers, including
sword swallowing with bends and piercing with knitting needles. As an escape
artist, Jari has tried to bring the art to the new millenium by creating his own
concept of escapology. As a result, his stunts on the ground, in the air and in
water have been well recognized by performing artist from all over the world.

At the present Jari is working on new challenges, planning and training new
stunts. He also performs at various events in Finland.
