WELCOME TO WEBSITES OF JARI TAPANAINEN! For over ten years, Jari Tapanainen has been touring Finland as an escape artist, a fakir and a sword swallower. Jari has become famous among the Finns after numerous spectacular escape performances, not only on the ground but also in the elements of air and water. In addition, his demanding and dangerous acts have been praised by performance artists from all over the world. In his youth, Jari trained himself in different kinds of stunt acts. Later he was drawn to rarer forms of performing arts and started to study escapology and fakir numbers. After performing for a while, this choice of career became ever clearer when he befriended Timo Tuomivaara (1938-2004), a legendary escape artist. Impressed by Jari's skill and ideas, Tuomivaara instructed him further. Jari himself has said that Tuomivaara's encouragement has made him the performer he is today. Furthermore, the legend held Jari as his successor. Jari has been working on his own concept of escapology, creating escapist acts with a dangerous momentum that have taken him to his limits. To mention a few of Jari's most daring escapes, he has been submerged in water near freezing point in chains and handcuffs. He has been hung in midair, head down, with a strangling neck iron. He has been chained to a torture pole while set on fire on a stake. He has been chained to a great anchor and tossed into the river Aurajoki. What are the keys to survival in each of these feats?
